The wording on a wedding invitation does a lot of quiet work: it sets the tone, signals how formal the day will be, and tells guests exactly what they need to know. Here is a simple way to get it right.
1. Open with who is hosting
Traditionally the hosts - often the couple or their families - are named first. Today many couples host themselves, which is perfectly modern: “Together with their families, Anna and David invite you to celebrate their wedding.”
2. The request to attend
Formal events use “request the honour of your presence”; relaxed celebrations can simply say “would love you to join them”. Match the phrase to the day you are actually planning.
3. The essentials, clearly
Date, time and place - in full, with no abbreviations guests have to decode. If there is a separate ceremony and reception, make the order obvious.
4. How to reply
End with a clear call to RSVP. With a digital invitation this is a single tap, and replies arrive in your dashboard automatically - no cards to count by hand.
